Jay and Dylan attend an academy for those that have unique abilities but that doesn’t make growing up any easier. Jay is determined to finally understand where she came from while Dylan struggles with his own issues as his anger continues to escalate. As a powerful threat grows, Jay must figure out how to use her power if she is to save both this world and the parallel world of Aris Magica.
The story shifts between Jay and Dylan’s perspectives, following their individual coming-of-age journeys and their friendship. They’re facing similar struggles though are dealing with the issues on their own which causes some friction in their friendship. Their dynamic is a prominent element of the story and an important aspect of both characters. Jay is a very driven character, with a mission to learn more about where she comes from and dissatisfaction with not having answers which contrast with Dylan who seems to be more accepting though angrier. The academy serves as the ideal backdrop giving them and others like them a place that they call home and a sanctuary to learn magic. The Keepers of Aris is a fun read that weaves magic, coming-of-age, friendship, and self-discovery set against the backdrop of a fight to save two worlds.
