I Am Picky: Confessions of a Fussy Eater follows a family of finicky raccoons with very specific tastes. These raccoons root through garbage to find their perfect foods. Children will laugh at the disgusting food combinations that are devoured by the raccoons. The dynamic and lively artwork provided by Erin Kraan truly elevates this story. She portrays the raccoon family’s expressions and the garbage they devour with such vibrant detail. There are certain pages devoid of words, so the descriptive images can speak for themselves.
Adults can use this book as a conversation starter to talk to children about their specific likes and dislikes when it comes to foods. I wish the author would make the connection to realistic food choices so that children could relate more to the raccoons. Overall this story is a silly story with adorable illustrations that will be enjoyed mostly by children ages three to seven.
