Beaky Barnes is the story of a chicken, a woman, a chef, an inspector, and several other characters. The story begins when the inspector needs an egg from the chef after he falls out of his sandwich; unfortunately for both the chef and inspector, no egg is to be found…yet. Along comes a woman and her roommate, the chicken, who have come to enjoy a celebratory meal together. The chef continues to look for an egg for the inspector while the chicken happens to lay one but must hide it from them and is slightly upset with her roommate for a new idea she had, involving chickens. All of the characters find themselves in each other’s lives differently, but eventually, all is good and back to “normal.” Funny “ads” are on pages throughout the book of things that would be crazy if they were real!
Beaky Barnes is long, but because it’s written like a comic book, the pages turn fast. There were times that I was laughing during the story, but never any other emotion. The characters say funny things, and because it’s by the author of “Interrupting Chicken,” it sounds a lot like that book, and there are chickens as the main characters in both. I will continue to read Beaky Barnes and think that a sequel should be made!
